While we talk about storytelling, be it in any form- one of the things that I find very intriguing is Characters and their arc. Be it the most manipulative person on the planet or a thief or the President- I just want to know about the person and how they make me feel. And being a writer as well, somehow I tend to go into deep characterization, think about backstories that are non-existent, form a scene in my mind which did not exist. At the end of the day, I think what matters the most in any character is not what did they do or who do they murder. It comes down to 2 things, at least for me: Why (their backstory) and What they made me feel?
Did I cry my heart out?
Did I want to murder someone?
Did the character survive? (Because let’s face it, half of them or probably more than half end up being dead)
So, here comes this short talk where I’ll be talking about Characters, what I liked about them and how they affected me. Did they change me and increase expectations from real people? Everything will be here.
As I was in process of short-listing the characters and writing about them, I decided to go in Alphabetical order. It is a bit more challenging. Because I have to list down all my characters and then sort them. After which, I realised that I still missed some letters, which then ended up with me racking my mind to think about all the characters. And the best part? Even after the characters are selected, I got to re-read the books to note the minor points about the characters. (Not that I am complaining. My TBR list is, but, let’s face it, when is my TBR list not complaining?)
So, as per the order. The first letter is A. Can you guess who the first character will be?
